A Course in Miracles and Forgiveness

A Course in Miracles: “All Things are Lessons god Would Have Me Learn.”

Today I am reminded of this message from the workbook in A Course in Miracles. It’s Lesson 193 so you are well into the lessons when you have reached this point. It’s important to keep in mind that this is an entirely different concept than the traditional Christian concept that god is the giver of trials and tribulations, and therefore “lessons.” When one understands that god is only LOVE and creates only LOVE, this could not possibly be true.

This lesson is a reminder that we are the ones who are “seeing” incorrectly. When seeming difficulties arise in our life, regardless of the form, underneath them all they are one and the same:

  1. A Call for Love
  2. Another opportunity to forgive something that in reality is going inside of ME

I love this quote from Essays of the Light by Erin Michelle Galito:

“When something is jarringly negative, it is calling out to you and saying, “please recognize me and please change me now. Please transmute this energy, because it is not Real. Please adjust this now by turning it over to god, and letting go and letting god.” (p. 37)

Once we have recognized that something in us has created this, we can forgive ourselves for whatever is going on inside of our minds that isn’t loving, and then turn it over to god. We can trust that god will take care of it. A helpful action to take is to do whatever you need to do in the moment to return to alignment with god, to alignment with what is Real: Love, Peace and Joy. This might be as simple as taking a moment to appreciate something or someone around you, maybe the sunshine or flowers blooming.

Forgive, and You Will See this Differently

It’s not easy, but when we turn things over to god, and trust that god knows what is best for ALL, we can rest in the certainty that All is Truly Always Well. When we view perceptions through our human eyes, we have a very limited awareness of what is truly going on. We can ask the Holy Spirit to help us see as it sees. We can turn it ALL over.

From the Course:

“How can you tell when you are seeing wrong? Does pain seem real in the perception? If it does, be sure the lesson is not learned. And there remains an unforgiveness hiding in the mind that sees the pain through eyes the mind directs.”

“Does pain seem real in the perception?” Wow, how much of our human experience revolves around experiences of pain? If we are feeling pain in what we seem to be encountering, we can turn it over to the Holy Spirit and ask to see a situation as it does. We can now see through a Vision of Love and Forgiveness, and a feeling of peace can then return to our mind.

Forgiveness is Still and Quietly Does Nothing

I love this quote from another section in A Course in Miracles, that I am reminded of as I think about forgiveness. When I’m trying to forgive a situation that has arisen in my mind, I wonder what the actual process looks like. If I recognize it is a call for love, then I can express love. But I also love this quote:

Forgiveness is Still, and Quietly Does Nothing. It merely looks, waits, and judges not. Do nothing then, and let forgiveness show you what to do, though that which is your guide.

As we turn it over to the Holy Spirit/Our Higher Self, we can then “See” with true vision. So I can express love, be Still and most importantly Judge Not.

I Will Forgive, and THIS Will Disappear

Again from the Course:

“This is the lesson God would have you learn: There is a way to look on everything that lets it be to you another step to god. To all that speaks of terror, answer thus: I Will FORGIVE and this will disappear… To every apprehension, every care and every form of suffering, repeat these selfsame words: I Will FORGIVE and this will disappear.”

Let Go and Let Love Work its Magic

How many times can we look backwards in our lives and connect the dots in reverse, seeing things that seemed like overwhelming trials be resolved and turn out to be what was best for all involved? Letting go of the need to judge a situation and trusting that the Universe has a bigger plan, allows Love to Work it’s Magic.
