A Course in Miracles
These words come from the book A Course in Miracles and have soothed my soul recently. If who I really am as god’s child cannot truly suffer, then I can focus on staying aligned in the Present Moment, with the Peace, Love and Joy that is god, that is Love, that is eternal, and that is truly Real. I had a houseful of guests over the holidays, which was wonderful but also resulted in a steady hum of noise and chaos. It was difficult to find a quiet space to be still and LISTEN to All That Is.
Insights From the Front Porch
One afternoon I was able to find a cozy space outside on the front porch, the overhang protecting me from the rain. I came across this quote and I was reminded of what truly Is. How incredible that Who I Really Am, can suffer nothing. Who we are as god created us is joy, love, peace and light. That is our birthright, and is all too easy to forget. But when the chaos of the moment creates a forgetfulness of this truth, and causes me to step away from my Awareness of the Present Moment, I am only one breath, one instant away from the Now, which brings with it the Peace and Remembrance of All That Is Real.
From A Course in Miracles:
“Learn then, the happy habit of response to all temptation to perceive yourself as weak and miserable with these words:
I am as God created me. God’s Child can suffer nothing. And I am God’s Child.
And thus is Christ’s (the Oneness we all share) strength invited to prevail, replacing all your weakness with the strength that comes from god that can never fail.”
A Course in Miracles-
Hold On – Are you saying Humans Don’t Suffer?
This quote is not in any way attempting to say that pain and suffering does not occur here in our experience as a body, as a human. Of course we all experience that! But it is reminding us where we should place our focus. Our incredible ability to focus with our minds is where our true Power is. What we focus on is our way of telling the Creator within us, “I want more of this, please.”
So where do we put our focus? Do we spend our precious moments focusing and amplifying what seems to be our suffering, lack and pain? If so, we are in essence saying to our Creative Mind, “create more suffering, please.” This concept sounded absolutely ridiculous to me the first time I became aware of it. But it is also so empowering, as it allows us to switch from feeling at the mercy of something outside of us and outside of our control, to understanding that “I am the Creator of my Experience. What do I truly want more of? Let me focus on that.”
How much better we feel when we use our Creative Ability in our minds to focus on what we truly want more of, which is that which is ultimately Real: the Love, Peace and Joy that is the essence of who we truly Are as god’s Child. When we are Aware of the Present Moment, we are once again aligned with these qualities.
Returning to Awareness of the Present Moment
Somehow remembering this allows me to focus on peace and to rise above or below the chaos and suffering that may seem to currently be surrounding me. To return to being aware of the Present Moment. To “Let go, let god, and let Love” work its magic.
